Eyebrow transplantation is technically demanding. The hairs that grow there are finer than scalp hair, the follicular units smaller, and the angles at which they emerge are very specific to each person’s brow structure. There is a reason some clinics do not offer it. Done well, the result is a set of brows that sit naturally in the face. Done poorly, it is immediately obvious.
At Hair Transplant Newcastle, DHI is the preferred technique for eyebrow restoration, because of the level of control it provides over graft placement.
Eyebrow Transplant in Newcastle
The procedure restores or creates eyebrow density where hair has been lost or was never fully present. This covers a range of situations:
- Over-plucking over a long period, which can cause follicular scarring that prevents regrowth
- Natural sparseness at the tail of the brow, which is common and hereditary
- Alopecia conditions that have caused patchy or complete brow loss
- Scarring from injury, burns, or surgery
- Medical hair loss caused by thyroid conditions, chemotherapy, or other systemic causes
In cases where hair loss is ongoing due to a medical condition, the underlying cause should be addressed and stabilised before a transplant is considered. Your surgeon will discuss this at your consultation.
How Eyebrow Transplants Are Performed
Follicles are taken from the scalp, typically the back of the head, where the hair texture is closest to eyebrow hair. Single follicular units are selected rather than multi-hair grafts, as eyebrow density requires fine, individual placement.
Those follicles are then placed into the brow area using the Choi Implanter Pen. Each placement is precisely angled to match the direction of natural brow growth, which typically follows a different angle at the inner, middle, and tail sections of each brow.
Most eyebrow transplant sessions take between three and five hours. Graft counts typically range from 150 to 450 grafts per brow, depending on the starting density and the desired result.
Recovery and Growth
Immediately after the procedure, the transplanted area will have small healing points and some minor swelling. This resolves within five to seven days.
The transplanted hairs shed between two and four weeks post-procedure. This is expected. New growth begins from around month three, and the final brow shape and density become clear between months six and twelve.
One practical consideration: transplanted scalp hair grows at the rate of scalp hair, which is faster than natural brow hair. This means the transplanted brows will need regular trimming initially, and often indefinitely, to maintain the intended brow length and shape. This is a well-understood aspect of the procedure that your surgeon will explain before you proceed.
What a Natural Result Requires
The quality of an eyebrow transplant is determined primarily by two things: the precision of follicle placement and the design of the brow shape.
On placement: each follicle must be placed at an angle that matches the natural brow pattern. The hairs at the inner brow grow more vertically; at the arch they angle outward; at the tail they lie almost flat. A surgeon who does not work at this level of precision produces results that look placed rather than grown.
On design: the planned brow shape needs to be consistent with the patient’s facial structure and bone structure. A brow design that works for one face will look wrong on another. The planning stage of an eyebrow transplant is as important as the surgical execution.
If you are also considering a hair transplant for your scalp, a beard transplant, or hairline restoration, the procedures can be discussed at the same consultation, with donor supply planning assessed across all areas simultaneously.

Frequently Asked Questions
When the placement angles and design are correct, transplanted eyebrow hair grows in a way that is consistent with natural brow hair. The main ongoing consideration is that scalp hair grows faster than brow hair, so the transplanted section will need trimming regularly to maintain the intended shape and length.
Most patients need between 150 and 450 grafts per brow. If both brows are being treated, total graft counts typically fall in the 300 to 900 range. Sparse or thinning brows requiring conservative enhancement sit at the lower end; significant restoration of largely absent brows sits at the higher end.
This depends on whether the permanent makeup or microblading has caused any scarring or follicular damage. Superficial treatments are generally not a problem. Deeper treatments that have affected the follicular layer in the brow area may limit what transplantation can achieve. Your surgeon will assess this at consultation.
In many cases, yes. If a previous procedure has produced results with incorrect angles or an unnatural shape, corrective work can sometimes be done, either by removing poorly placed follicles or by transplanting additional hair to improve the overall appearance. This is assessed case by case.
The transplanted follicles are genetically resistant to the causes that typically lead to eyebrow hair loss, in the same way that donor-dominant scalp hair is. If the original cause of brow loss was systemic or hormonal, those same factors will not affect the transplanted hair in the same way. Results are considered permanent for the large majority of patients, though natural ageing will affect hair texture over time.
Eyebrow transplant pricing depends on the number of grafts required. Most procedures fall in a more modest graft range than scalp transplants. Full pricing is on our pricing information, and payment finance is available.
